I am extremely lucky to live in Michigan under incredible leadership right now. Governor Whitmer is doing a great job guiding us through this safely, and the dean whose college I work under at Michigan State is compassionate and understanding of faculty concerns right now.
The rest of the country isn't so fortunate. In Iowa, I've got a teacher friend working as a bartender over the summer (not paying teachers enough is a rant for another day) who got asked to "pull that mask down so I can see your smile" a week ago. She went home and cried before getting coronavirus this week -- we're all wondering how the state is going to survive this. :(
