I haven't really written since I began training in Air Traffic Control, if I'm being honest. It has to "hit me"... and that happens every 4th Sunday on years that end in 0 after a Blood Moon, but not before the 2nd Friday the 13th of the year.
highly recommend tricking yourself into writing! for real for real it's a great way to build consistency bc i totally get that "waiting for the feeling to hit"...and sometimes i just can't rely on that feeling to show up so i have to create it myself !!!
i've been making web diagrams which seems like a 3rd grade technique but let me tell you...NOTHING gets me feeling more organized and capable than a friggin web diagram. all the ideas are just there...as opposed to sitting in my brain just out of reach. it's so soothing and gets everything out so at the very least i can START writing something semi-coherent. also not above leaving voice mails to my gf who literally lives with me bc talking things out HELPS ME PROCESS and makes me feel like I'm being productive lolololol
WAIT, SAME. I find mapping my shit out (or spreading color-coded index cards on the dining room table 🤪) can lead to breakthroughs when I need them. Do you have a certain technique you use? Give me that third-grade magic lol
oh god it's very basic and messy, i shall send you a visual aid. part of me wants to buy that white board paint and start using my wall bc HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE lol
I deleted my FB account last year, never looked back. I keep wondering why some entrepreneur isn't taking advantage of the millions who would like an alternative.
As to summoning the writing muse(s) I find little competition to a diet coke followed by overindulgence in chocolate chip cookies. The muses swarm for about fifteen minutes after such a binge. But fifteen minutes with them can be magic.
I'm not a writer, but appreciate good writing. I'm a big fan of yours, Lauren. You write beautifully, and your content is inspiring. Keep up the great work
I deleted my Facebook and Instagram months ago and use the EFF's Privacy Badger extension to make their life more difficult when tracking me. Taking one person off their 30 day actives isn't much, but it's what I can do to stymie Facebook.
Honestly, as side tips, I work freelance and I tend to identify what is causing me the most anxiety then try to solve that problem first. Or I pick an easy solve. Whichever I identify as a) causing stress/anxiety; and b) greatest level of reward for resolving. After that, everything else feels easier. But I'm also a monster who organizes my browser tabs and windows.
Ugh, I wish I had writing tips to share! I have a proposal due on May 16 -- something that should be an easy win for me -- but I HAVE NOTHING right now and I hate it.
I'm going to try writing on what makes me happy for now and hope I can spin that into something smart and profound. Report on the results to come in half a month. :p
Ah, sending your brain extra strength, Ryan! (You should try Amy Cuddy’s writing hour, if you’re ever free around 11, and need the structure. It’s a tip, and then 20 minutes of writing on your own, a five-minute break, and 25 more minutes of writing. Finally got me back in the groove yesterday.)

Ahaha **doing math with my eyebrows**
Do you have more free time in the morning or at night? Maybe you could set aside 30 minutes to just put down whatever you’ve got going on...

NOTHING but disrespect for MY Zuckerberg.
