I'm a big fan of zoom AI generated meeting summaries. I use them frequently, but they have their limitations.
Last week, I was discussing a personnel issue a co worker and I were having with a different department. The summary had all the facts and action items. What is didn't have was what the meeting was about. It missed our visceral reactions to events. It was blind to human impact of what we discussed. If didn't capture us supporting each other.
Some animals can perceive light in the infrared or UV spectrum, but we can't. UV and Infrared light is invisible to our eyes. The zoom bot is the same. The human element is invisible to it.
Maybe some day OpenAI will have a model that can perceive the human element, but not soon.
The human element is invisible to it, exactly! Putting it in those terms helps me think more about when and how I can concede the usefulness of AI without sacrificing my humanity lol
I think that our minds have large components that do not have “language”. These parts seem silent because they cant communicate in “words” but they allow us to create and experience music and art. They contribute immensely to our emotions. I think that they are the source of our deep feeling that connection with everything in the world is our ultimate goal. Seems like much of this maps to the right brain. AI is a creation of our left brain and functions using language. It cant experience or capture that part of humanity. It may give us what we think we “want” but I don’t believe that it will give us what gives our minds real joy - either in making or experiencing.
Even just seeing "words" and "what we think we 'want'" in quotes like that is hitting me on another level. I honestly don't think we can even trust our minds without getting our hearts/joy involved. Left to its own devices, my mind tries to kill me lol.
Sadly, our language brain is pretty controlling and anxious. It really thinks it is the only part of us capable of protecting us. Sadly, it doesn’t realize how lousy it is at living. I love Jill Bolte Taylors “Whole Brain Living”. I’m totally stuck in my left brain and have to work to experience my right brain “characters”. I wish I had a better way to directly access my non-verbal mind. Like a switch….yeah a switch would be good. Until then, I’ll try music and humor.
Oh, I loved her TED talk! Adding "Whole Brain" to my list. I have also been working on a project about the power of music education — "Of Sound Mind" by Dr. Nina Kraus is not a light read, but her work has profound implications for how we can change our brains by practicing an instrument... I really should pick up my guitar again haha.
Your neighbors will appreciate your choice. Mine have to deal with bagpipes 😂 Definitely think that music offers an experience of something beyond our consciousness .
"There are some minds and hearts more finely attuned to the mystery".....
Not to seem bizarre but interesting video I just saw this week...
Connected in a connected way...."The Telepathic Tapes"....about Non-verbal Autistic children, mentions traumatic brain injured people who can now access realms of information...
A 9 episode podcast, while they raise funds for movie/"scientific" experiments (pseudo science scam? but lots of valid points).
There is a 2 hour video interview of the film maker that is worth watching first (haven't listened to podcast yet personally). Twists and turns and opens some possible Connection of Connections....
I'm always down for the bizarre, RJ! Will have to take a look at this. Your comment alone makes me think of all the way our our own minds get in the way of inspiration, nvm AI haha...

Bagpipes! I'm dead 😂
Conveniently, I can recommend an array of musical selections for the funeral 😂

Lauren, how much would you charge to help me write my Wikipedia page? Serious question. DM me at DavidDoniger.bsky.social.
David, don't play pranks on me!
