Sexism in politics? Warren's got a plan for that
"If you find Elizabeth Warren's adorable goofball dancing 'inauthentic', ask yourself why"
Hi! I’ve added a mission statement to Pancake Brain since first publishing this post: America is currently an oligarchy organized by the hierarchy of the white supremacist patriarchy. Pancake Brain is a Friday newsletter dedicated to replacing the status quo with equitable public power, and a community dedicated to building the discipline of democracy that equity requires. We move through the world committed to a daily practice of activism and critical thinking. We reject limitations and embrace the possibilities of social imagination, certain that the queer future is better than anything we’ve yet dreamed up. We insist on our right and duty to the political conversation, and empower others to join us. Out of love for ourselves and the collective, we are engaged in a sustainable practice of freedom, endlessly un-fucking our brains.
Dearest Pancake Brains,
Happy new year! It has been nearly 84 years since I last wrote to you all. I went two weeks without my phone or internet, and am please to report my soul has been saved.
I’ll likely write a longer note next week, possibly about those adventures, but, for now, here is a new essay for The Independent on the litmus test of Elizabeth Warren’s dancing and how she’s combatting sexism in politics. It’s sort of a spiritual sequel to the satirical essay I published before disappearing into the wilderness.
Sending you all strength and love. If you haven’t settled on a solid resolution yet, I strongly suggest participating in our democracy,* and humbly recommend grabbing a copy of “How to Start a Revolution,” if you haven’t already.
Your friend,
Lauren
*I’m serious, folks. Call your Senators everyday if you can. Tell your friends and family to call their Senators, etc, etc. The idea that the outcome of Trump’s impeachment trial is pre-determined is baldly anti-democratic. Don’t fall for it. That number again is 202-224-3121.
