God I love this essay. Taking music seriously in retirement has been transformative for me. I look for excuses to avoid practicing but once I start, it happens easily. My progress is slow, like non-existent, to the casual listener. The difference I feel in my head is dramatic. I think that music is a direct connection to a really important part of our brains that are non-verbal. I think it’s a pipeline to our ā€œspiritualityā€ center. Listening to music is amazing. Studying and playing is a step beyond. I think your goal of 10 minutes a day is great. Doing it daily is super helpful to form a habit. Keep the goals small and never miss! Excited to hear how it goes!
